Donated roses for planting at several Los Angeles area-based liberal arts campuses

Rancho Mirage, CA – March 22, 2013 - The Caroline Victoria Coldicutt Arts Foundation (CVCAF) announced that it has gifted 120 Caroline Victoria roses for planting at various southern California universities and colleges. The recipient schools include: The Claremont Colleges – Claremont Graduate University, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College and Pomona College located in Claremont, CA and the University of Redlands located in Redlands, CA.

The Caroline Victoria Rose for the Arts is the signature rose of the CVCAF and is trademarked by the foundation in Canada and the United States. The donations were made to honor these liberal arts colleges and universities that support and teach the arts while encouraging student creativity. Laura Rowley, Pomona College, comments, “We are very humbled to be the recipient of this lovely gift. The roses at Pomona College will be a lasting testimonial to be enjoyed by our students, faculty and visitors to our campus in the years to come.”

Forty of the Caroline Victoria roses will be planted at the University of Redlands. According to Jennifer Sorrenson, Associate Director of Facilities Operation, “We are so excited by this opportunity of planting the Caroline Victoria roses near our Hall of Letters, one of the oldest buildings on campus built in the 1920s. We are so very grateful for the CVCAF’s generous gift.”

About the Caroline Victoria Rose for the Arts:

The Caroline Victoria Rose for the Arts is an exceptional hybrid tea rose with blooms of pure ivory shading to amber blush in a spiral bud formation. It has an impeccable genealogical background, combining the stately grace of the Audrey Hepburn rose with the fragrant, award-winning New Zealand rose. Perfume is exceptionally long-lasting with a base of light citrus and raspberry with subtle overtones of mint. The rose was created by world-renowned rose breeder Robert Harkness, Hertfordshire, England as a perpetual commemoration of the life of student artist Caroline Victoria Coldicutt. Introduced in 2006 at the Chelsea Flower Show in London, a Caroline Victoria rose bouquet was presented to Queen Elizabeth II. The rose is currently planted at Buckingham Palace and Highgrove, Prince Charles’ residence, as well as in major public and private gardens in North America and Europe.

Janet Inada, rosarian and owner of Rogue Valley Roses, OR, states, “The Caroline Victoria rose is the most beautiful white rose of its type that I have ever grown. Fragrance is exceptionally long-lasting and rates 10 out of 10.” It offers season-long repeat flowering and holds highest ratings for hardiness, disease resistance and ease of cultivation. The rose is suitable for group planting in beds, borders or as a low hedge. It is an excellent rose for the garden.

Rancho Mirage, CA – February 20, 2013 - The Caroline Victoria Coldicutt Arts Foundation (CVCAF) announced that it has gifted an original oil painting by Alexandre Renoir to the John Thomas Dye School, Bel-Air, CA to support the school’s art and music programs. The painting, entitled “Water Lilies,” is valued in excess of $12,000 and will be featured at the school’s live auction event on March 9, 2013. Artxprt of Beverly Hills, CA provided an appraisal.

“We are so pleased to accept this lovely painting for our school’s online and live auction event that will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the “I Want My JTD” 80’s Bash. Proceeds from the sale will go toward the school’s art and music programs to inspire our young artists and performers,” said Tammy Ratner, co-chair of the John Thomas Dye online auction. “We are so grateful to the Caroline Victoria Coldicutt Arts Foundation for their donation in support of our school.”

Alexandre Renoir, a director of the CVCAF, is the great-grandson of French impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Mr. Renoir’s paintings and lithographs are currently available through Gallerie Michael, Beverly Hills and are featured in numerous private collections throughout North America, Asia and Europe.

Elizabeth Wood Coldicutt, President of the CVCAF comments, “We are simply delighted to contribute this painting to JTD’s auction as it initially began with their art students and has come full circle back to them! Alexandre Renoir presented a master class to Julie Carter’s art students in 2012 and painted “Water Lilies” during that class. The painting was gifted to Ms. Carter, which she later donated to the Caroline Victoria Coldicutt Arts Foundation. “Water Lilies” is now being returned to JTD to be sold at auction to benefit their art and music programs. Our foundation is thrilled to be a part of this effort.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rancho Mirage, CA –May 31, 2012 – The Caroline Victoria Coldicutt Arts Foundation (CVCAF) today announced that the Caroline Victoria Arts Award at Idyllwild Academy of the Arts (IAA) will be granted to Mikaela Gerwing, a junior student from Alberta, Canada. Emmanuel Renoir, a director of the CVCAF, will present Mikaela with the CVCAF Arts Award at the school’s presentation ceremony on June 01, 2012.

Mikaela is passionate about musical theatre and is an all-rounded student in academics and the arts at Idyllwild Academy. She performed (dancing and singing) in the musical For the Birds and was assistant stage manager/co-dance captain for the musical Berlin to Broadway. According to Donna Cory, guest choreographer for Berlin to Broadway, “Mikaela is completely invested in the educational process. She wants to learn because she wants to be a better artist and not because she wants to be in the spotlight. That is Mikaela in a nutshell.” “Mikaela’s eagerness, professionalism and positive attitude has set the bar in the theatre department. She is a total joy to have as a student,” said Howard Shangraw, chair of the theatre department. “Without being asked, Mikaela took all the dance notation and filmed the finished choreography (Berlin to Broadway) in order to send it to each cast member so they could review the work over the two week spring break!” Mikaela responded that she was “beyond surprised and excited” to receive the award. “I hope that the work I do in theatre can do justice to Caroline. Thank you for this amazing opportunity.”

The CVCAF endowed scholarship award was established at Idyllwild Arts Academy in January 2011. The annual arts award is based on merit as well as financial need and is in recognition of an Idyllwild Arts student’s outstanding achievement in any creative form – fine art, music, film, photography and dance.

The Idyllwild Arts Academy, Idyllwild, CA provides pre-professional training in the arts and a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum to a diverse student body of 300 gifted young artists from over 40 countries. Idyllwild offers a disciplined college preparatory program for grades 9-12 and post-graduates along with world-class training in creative writing, dance, film & video, interdisciplinary arts, music, theatre and visual art.

Rancho Mirage, CA – September 12, 2011 - The Caroline Victoria Coldicutt Arts Foundation (CVCAF) today announced a gift of $1,000 toward the Mary Pickford Institute’s Filmmaking Bootcamp for foster kids at Aviva Center and High School in Hollywood, CA.

The Mary Pickford Institute (MPI) is dedicated to empowering young women in the spirit and legacy of Mary Pickford. MPI’s Mobile Film Classroom program led a workshop in August with the students of Aviva Center and High School, a residential treatment home and special education high school, located in Hollywood, for abused and neglected adolescent girls. Due to extreme budget cuts throughout LAUSD, all classes for the month of August at Aviva Center had been cancelled, leaving the girls living in the Aviva residence during the summer without activities. MPI, with the help of the CVCAF and others, funded the Filmmakers Bootcamp.

“The summer bootcamp was a success,” according to Tom Nelson, teacher at Aviva High School. ”The kids were fired up and have such a positive attitude. Amazing!”

The MPI’s Mobile Film Classroom program provided the tools and guidance that allowed these young women to build their self-confidence and filmmaking skills. Through the process of working together in small production teams, they created short films about an issue that mattered to them while developing skills in collaboration and teamwork, critical thinking, storytelling, filming and video editing.

According to Elizabeth Wood Coldicutt, President of the CVCAF, “We are thrilled to participate in the effort of supporting and teaching these young girls that through film, they have a voice worthy of being heard, and we applaud the Mary Pickford Institute and their Mobile Film Classroom programs as they truly are making a difference.”
